A blank sheet, a half remembered layout and an hour of wiring rows together is how most profit and loss statements start. This is that job done once: five ready layouts for manufacturing, retail and wholesale, software, services and real estate, a written note on every line, and a guide beside them.

Who it is for. Someone who has to produce a credible profit and loss structure quickly, for their own business or for a client, and would rather start from a sector shaped layout that already foots than from a blank sheet.

What you get

One ZIP, about 119 KB. An Excel workbook of nine worksheets, being five sector layouts, a comparison tab, a ratio reference and a live tie out proof, plus a thirteen page guide as a PDF.

Requires Microsoft Excel for the workbook, any PDF reader for the guide. No macros and no add-ins.

Inside

Five sectors, laid out the way each one actually reads.

Manufacturing runs materials, labour and overhead into cost of sales. Software separates recurring revenue with acquisition cost and development below the line. Real estate runs rental and service charge income down to net operating income. These are not one template with the labels swapped.

It adds up, and that is tested rather than asserted.

An independent check confirms that profit for the year equals the sum of every input line, across all ten columns, with no self referencing formula behind the total.

One tab to choose from.

The comparison tab shows all five side by side, so you pick the structure that fits instead of guessing, then work in that tab.

A note on every line, not just a label.

All 93 line items across the five layouts carry a short written commentary in the column beside them, saying what that line is telling you. Every line, not a selection.

A thirteen page guide beside the workbook.

How each of the five statements is arranged, what the measurement rules do to the numbers going into it, and which parts of the presentation are required rather than chosen. The part the spreadsheet cannot hold.

Macro free, so it goes through.

Plain .xlsx with nothing to run. It opens anywhere and clears corporate mail filters.

Terms

Licence. Yours to use however you like: on your own work, for clients, across your whole firm, modified or rebranded, for as long as you like. One purchase, no seat count, no renewal. The one thing we ask is that you do not resell or redistribute the files themselves as a product.

Privacy. Whichever of Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad or Polar you buy through is the merchant of record. It receives your name, email, payment details and billing country, and handles payment and any sales tax under its own registrations. The studio receives order metadata only, the product, amount, date and your email for delivery and support, and never receives card details. The downloaded files carry no tracking, no analytics, nothing that phones home, no macros and no active content. The workbook contains formulas only, every one visible on the sheet, with no external workbook links, and the guide is a PDF with nothing to run and no links out.Confirmed 2026-09-06.
